He was a native of Church Point and had been a resident of Sulphur since 1983. He was a retired deputy with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Department and upon his retirement, he became a school crossing guard. Nubern was an accomplished electrician and plumber and enjoyed fishing and sitting on his porch drinking beer and smoking.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Natty Lavergne of Sulphur; three daughters, Crystal Lavergne and her partner, Alesha Dignam of Haughton, and Jeanise LeJune and Ann Lavergne, both of Sulphur; two sisters, Ella Mae Romain and Amad Winn, both of Richard; four grandchildren, Gavin Ripley, and Emile, Timothy, and Larry LeJune. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate. Burial will be in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. today with a scripture service at 6 p.m. and will resume on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
