Michael was a native of Gallitzin, Pa., and had lived in Sulphur for over 20 years. He was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. In 1953 he began his civil career as a lineman for Gulf State Utility Company in Lake Charles. He and his family resided in DeRidder from 1973-1995 where he farmed. After retiring, Mike and his wife, Faye, moved to Sulphur to be closer to their family. He enjoyed spending time at the golf course, but most of all family was his pride and joy. He loved traveling, cooking, gardening, reading and was an excellent craftsman. Pe Paw was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be missed greatly.
Those left behind to cherish his memories are his daughter, Linda Marie Czepiel and husband Stanley of Sulphur; son, Michael Paul McMahon and wife Kim of Westlake; five grandchildren, Ashley M. McMahon Kerns of Westlake, Michael S. McMahon of Westlake, Nicholas P. McMahon of New Orleans, Kara B. Czepiel of Magnolia, Texas, Christopher J. Czepiel and wife Jessica of Austin, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Peyton M. McMahon, Michael N. Kerns, Samuel H. Kerns, Aden C. Czepiel and Avery F. Czepiel; one great-grandson on the way, Grayson A. McMahon; brother, James McMahon of Gallitzin, Pa.; sister, Sister Ada McMahon of Indiana, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye McMahon; parents, Paul and Peggy McMahon; brothers, Bill and Patrick McMahon; and sister, Ann McMahon.
Pallbearers will be Chris Czepiel, Michael McMahon, Peyton McMahon, Nicholas McMahon, Steven Smith and David Smith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur. Father Gijo Ikkaramattom, HGN will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery in Lake Charles. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will resume on Friday morning from 10-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
