

SULPHUR – Louise Wingate Drounette, 83 went home Tuesday, August 4, 2015. She fought Pancreatic Cancer for three years. During the final six months, Louise and her daughter, Peggie, decided to spend each cherished moment together.
Louise, one of six children born to George and Ethel Dewey of Merryville, was the last of her siblings to be called home. She was a graduate of Sowela and began her nursing career in 1967 working for Dr. Charles Fellows. While working in the Emergency Department for West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital, Louise helped to save her young neighbor’s life by riding to Beaumont in the ambulance directly assisting the EMT’s with lifesaving measures. She also worked with St. Patrick Hospital and Holly Hill Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by, Billy Harold Wingate, her husband of 28 years and the father of their three children. In 2000, Louise lost her husband of 12 years, Willard “Sonny” Drounette.
Survivors include her daughter, Peggie Wingate Sullivan and husband Lynn of Sulphur; two sons, George Randall Wingate of LaPorte, TX and Gary Lynn Wingate and wife Angie of Sulphur; four grandchildren, Mark and Samantha Wingate of Houston, Michael Wingate of Sulphur, and Windy Wingate of Lake Charles; six great grandchildren; and a very close friend, “chosen daughter, Angela LeJune.
A Celebration of Louise’s life will be held at 10 am Saturday, August 8 in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Jody Barrilleaux will be the Celebrant. Entombment will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South of Carlyss. Visitation will be held Friday, 6 – 8pm and resume Saturday at 9am.
