Lora Livengood Perkins, also known as Nana, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, February 18, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born in Pineville, Louisiana on March 2, 1961. Lora received a Bachelor's Degree in English with a minor in Latin from McNeese State University. In 2016, she retired after 25 years of teaching Latin at Sulphur High School and loved cheering on the Tors any chance she got. Lora was a member of Houston River Baptist Church where she loved and served the Lord. She loved LSU athletics, and game days in Tiger Stadium were enjoyed at every opportunity. Anyone fortunate enough to have known her, was able to experience her huge heart, love, and kindness that she freely shared with all that she knew. Many, many days and nights were spent supporting and cheering on her kids and grandkids in any and all things they found themselves involved with. She loved hunting, fishing and seeing that love passed on to her children and grandchildren. Next to her family, teaching was where she found joy and was able to influence and touch numerous lives. Time after time she would commonly refer to her students as “One of my babies” and her students will tell you that she made sure that each of them felt like one of her own.
Lora spent eight years battling cancer--a hard-fought battle that she went through with the mentality that victory was just around the corner. Her positive attitude throughout this time in her life was an inspiration to family and friends. She took every opportunity she could to learn, educate, and support others with her experiences.
Survivors include her husband, Tab Ercell Perkins; sons, Matthew Ercell Perkins and wife, Lea Ann; Luke Edward Perkins and wife, Megan; father, James “Sam” Rogers; mother-in-law, Anita “Sissy” Perkins, sister-in-law, Mandy Perkins Hamilton and husband, Pat; grandchildren, Donald "Luke" Vice, Clayton Ercell Perkins, and Kaylee Rae Perkins.
