He was a native of Iowa and had been a resident of Sulphur for the majority of his life. Joe retired from BFI, where he had received numerous awards, and started TRACO Fabrication and Welding with his brother. He dearly loved his family, especially his grandchildren, but often found time to enjoy spending time on his tractor or on his pontoon boat.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Jacquelyn "Jackie" Trahan of Sulphur; two sons, Joshowa Holly and wife, Dana of Sulphur, and Shown Bailey of Midland, Texas; three daughters, Tina Taylor and husband, Kevin of Dallas, Texas, and Joshlynn Moore and Trinity Davis, both of Sulphur; three brothers, Fred Trahan and wife, Betty, and William Trahan, all of Jennings, and Richard Trahan and wife, Jeanny of Sulphur; four sisters, Ruby Stratton and Mildred Trahan of Lake Charles, Jane Chaisson and husband, Bobby of Lafayette, and Joann Meador and husband, Al of Atlanta, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Walter Trahan, Joseph Lee Trahan, John Edward Trahan, Paul Warren Trahan, Raleigh Trahan, and Helen Ruth Smith; and his parents, Joseph D. Trahan Sr. and Delia Gay Trahan.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 20, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Josh Holly, Mark King, Gary Stratton, Caleb Trahan, Greg Stratton, and Sam Beard. Burial will be in Lacassine Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday in the funeral home.
