Joseph proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and a lifetime member of American Legion Post #179, and the VFW of Sulphur. Joseph was the owner of Dob's Drive-inn of Sulphur, worked at Firestone, Texaco, and retired from Olin. Joseph was an active member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Churches, and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3015.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Deslatte Picard, daughter, Sandra Lee Picard, son, Joseph D. Picard, Jr., parents, Gilbert and Fedora Picard, and ten siblings.
Survivors include his son, John Picard of Bossier City, Louisiana; daughter-in-law, Janice Picard of Sulphur; grandchildren, Jodi Fontenot (Michael), Joseph Picard III (Katrina), John E. Picard (Toby), Jay Picard (Tammy), Jeff Picard (Inga), Jason Picard, and Beth Blackwell (Jonathan); brother, Charles Lucas Picard of Lake Charles; sister, Gayle Langhans of Slidell, Louisiana; eighteen great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 16, 2021 at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home with a Rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church with Rev. Andrews Kollannoor, M.S. officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Sulphur, Louisiana under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
