He was a native of Coulee Croix and had lived in Sulphur most of his life. Harry was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic church. He worked construction for many years but spent the majority of his life working as a funeral director. He was employed with Hixson Funeral Homes for several years before his retirement. Harry stayed busy doing things around the house such as woodworking and gardening, but he also enjoyed watching boxing and mixed martial arts, as well as spending time with his family. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his children, Rickey Joseph Fruge and wife, Vickie, Marilyn Fruge Knauf, and Charlotte Istre and husband, Gerald, all of Sulphur; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Fruge; two sisters; and three brothers.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Deacon Patrick Lapoint will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Lake Charles. Visitation is from 3-9 p.m. Tuesday with a rosary service at 7 p.m. and from 8 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday in the funeral home.
