He is survived by his two sisters, Gail Lane of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Deborah Cain of Denver, Colorado; a niece, Kelly Russell Pierce, and a nephew, David Lane; two step children, Judy Meeks (Michael) of Terrell, Texas and Steven G. Miller (Darlene) of Montgomery, Texas; four grandchildren, Christopher Meeks (Cheryl), Jennifer Haessig (Wally), Chase Miller (Kabir), and Dr. Crystal Goodman (Dr. Ian); along with six great grandchildren, Lily Meeks, Grace Meeks, Hannah Haessig, Bella Haessig, Isaiah Haessig, and Madeline Goodman.
John is preceded in death by his loving wife of 30 years, Rose Marie (Miller) Cain; parents; one son, Jeffery Scott; one sister, Jacque Russell; along with a brother, Joseph Peyton Cain.
John grew up in El Paso, Texas, and graduated from Ysleta High School in 1954. He then attended Texas Western College in El Paso, and later Stephen F. Austin College in Nacogdoches, Texas. He studied geology, engineering, philosophy, and journalism. He later moved to Southern Louisiana and eventually worked at Conoco as an Operator, retiring in the late nineties.
John was a gifted mathematician as a young man, and later came to love language, words and poetry, as well as classical jazz.
John gave a lifetime of love to his families. He will be deeply missed.
