"MeeMaw" was a longtime member of Henning Memorial United Methodist Church and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Joan volunteered in multiple hospitals for over five decades as an auxiliary member, and served as President for three years of the West Cal-Cam auxiliary. She was an active member of the Eastern Star in Sulphur. She loved gardening and decorating her home for each season. She was a loving wife, and mother to six sons, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed.
Joan was preceded in death by her son, Timmy Tolbert, parents, Otho and Goldie Fenner.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-five years, Charles David "Pee Wee" Tolbert; five sons, Tommy Tolbert and wife, Janis of Lafayette, David Tolbert and wife, Carol Ann of Huntsville, AL, Michael Tolbert and wife, Elnette, Jeffery Tolbert, and Mark Tolbert all of Sulphur; a daughter-in-law, Tami Tolbert of Carlyss; a sister, Dorothy "Dottie" Fenner Reece of Grand Praire, TX; fourteen grandchildren; and thirty-one great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Henning Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Ellen Alston officiating. Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines South Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Monday at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home, and will resume from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Words of comfort may be shared at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com
