SULPHUR - Dr. Harding J. Guidry, age 92, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
Harding lived in Cecilia and Henderson graduating from Cecilia High School in 1941. He then served in WWII in France, Belgium, and Germany. After serving in the US Army, he attended Southwest Louisiana Institute, and received a Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Loyola University in 1951. He practiced dentistry in Sulphur for thirty-four years. While in practice he was active in several professional, civic, and church organizations. After retirement Jim enjoyed fishing at Toledo Bend Camp. In later years he loved gardening and cooking for his family. He was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church where he served three years on the council and six years as a trustee. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veteran's Organization.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Henrietta Guidry of Sulphur; daughter, Peggy Anne Houston and husband, Glen of Houston, TX; son, Keith Guidry and wife, Monica of Sulphur; step-son, Johnny Spears and wife, Trish of Church Point, LA; step-son, Robert Spears and wife, Mitzi of Carlyss; step-son, Joe Spears and wife, Brenda of Sulphur; step-daughter, Christine Spears of Lacassine; brother, Francis Guidry of Portland Oregon; sister, Marion Johnson of Breaux Bridge; brother, Daniel “D.J.” Guidry of Sulphur; numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren who affectionately called him "Pop".
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Florine Melancon Guidry, his parents, Daniel and Valentine Guidry, son, Danny James Guidry, and grandson, Brett Thomas Guidry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2017 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Sulphur, La. Reverend Edward Richard, M.S. will officiate services. Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss. Pallbearers will be Mike Guidry, Kelly Guidry, Alan Houston, Aaron Hudson, Travis Spears, Tyler Spears, and Ethan Arsement. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. on Thursday with a Rosary held at 6:30 p.m. at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will resume on Friday from 11-12:30 Friday.
