He was born in Sulphur, La to H. R. “Jack” Perry and Willa Hoffpauir Perry on August 3, 1933. Gerald was a devout Christian who lived his life with humility, integrity, and honesty. He will be remembered for his kindness, patience, trustworthiness and his steadfast faith in the Lord.
He graduated from Sulphur High School and attended McNeese State University on a football scholarship. He then began his career at Conoco where retired 33 years later as machinist. At the time of his retirement, he was considered one of the top machinists.
Gerald had been a member of Houston River Baptist Church for 56 years and served as a Deacon. Family and friends knew of his dry sense of humor and quick wit. Because of his quiet demeanor he worked well training horses and working with cattle. After his retirement, he enjoyed playing pool at the Sulphur senior center and Dominoes with friends. He participated in the Senior Olympics and won several track medals.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Lethia Claudette Perry. His four children and their spouses, Jack “Kevin” Perry and wife Barbara; Gerald Reed Perry and wife Lori; Lisa Perry Adams and husband Pete; David Randall Perry and wife Lisa. His sister, Elizabeth Perry Fugatt and niece, Regina Perry. Ten grandchildren; Justin Perry(Laura); Allison Perry; Jesse Perry; Julie Perry; Jake Perry; Nevaeh Perry; Laura Adams Funderburk (Davy); Katherine Adams; Joseph Perry; Elizabeth Perry; eight great-grandchildren, Isaac Funderburk, Samuel Funderburk, Ethan Funderburk, Anna Funderburk, Silas Funderburk, Cyrsta Granger, Keli Perry, and Gracie Perry.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jack Lynn Perry.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2015, in Hixson – Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home from 5-8 pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 10 am at Houston River Baptist Church in Sulphur, La. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines North.
