So sad to hear about the passing of my Tiger teammate, classmate and friend.

Bruce Hemphill, a Tiger teammate and brother. Bruce and I both signed the same year with the Tigers. Played 4 years then student coached 3 years together. Needless to say we spent some time together from practice, playing, intramural basketball for 7 years. 
Bruce and I only have seen each other a few times since we left LSU I have always tried to keep up with. Bruce through the years. 
My prayers and condolences are with the Hemphill family. 
May God be with you and watch over you.

I am so sorry that Bruce is gone.  I went to high school with him and he truly was a gentleman.  Prayers for his family at this time.

My deepest sympathy to Bruce's family.  I always enjoyed talking with him . He loved McNeese and our area.  He will be missed but always remembered.

So sorry to learn of Bruce’s passing.   Bruce was a kind, gentle, and caring person.   My thoughts and prayers are with the family now during this most sad and difficult time.

We Davison siblings (Patricia, Bobby, Missy, Tom) were so lucky to have had the Hemphills as our childhood next door neighbors growing up on Horseshoe Lane in the 1960's/'70's. The nicest boys, and the nicest family. As little kids, when we'd come over, the boys would let us read their enviable collection of Dr. Seuss books, we all delighted in playing with their wonderful black pug pet dog named Blazer, and on the 4th of July gathered together to watch our dads' collective fireworks displays in the backyard. 

Bruce was totally into sports, but was never a "mean jock" like some. I (Patricia) last spoke with him in 2016 on the McNeese campus, where I ran into him while going to apply for my ELS/ESL instructor position. He was as soft-spoken, smiley and positive, as he was as a boy, even then battling his cancer.

 Our sincerest, heartfelt condolences to his family.

The Hemphills were my next door neighbors throughout childhood. Bruce was very athletic and me, not so much, so our interests were different. While not close friends I always remember him as friendly and never the "bully jock" stereotype.

My deepest condolences to the family. Bruce was so good to me and the children. I will never forget how warm and accepting he was to us and how much he did for the kids to make them feel welcomed at Mcneese and Lake Charles. He also gave  Sterlin his  first head coach job.  What an honor and a blessing.  Bruce will always have a special place in our hearts. Please know that we are with you and thought and prayers.

Bruce played football at LSU with my brother in law, Leo Hodgins. By the time I was in college, Bruce was working at LSU on their  coaching staff. He enlisted me to help with recruiting and thusly a fast friendship formed! 

It is impossible for me not to think highly of Bruce. He was such an incredibly thoughtful, kind, good person. I remember him as an athletic, beautiful man who went out of his way to help friends and make those around him feel safe and secure. 

I will always feel lucky to have known him even if for just a short period of time. I know that the world is just a little less bright without him in it. He will be missed.

Hello.  My name is Bill Edwards and I was a freshman with Bruce on the LSU football team for four years with Bruce.  It is with great sadness and condolences that I extend to you as Bruce's family.  He was more than a wonderful individual and an awsome team player as well.  I know that he is in a very wonderful place today as he is in our hearts.  Go Bruce !!!

I'm really shocked  to read that Bruce has passed away at such an young age.  We attended school from the Maplewood days through graduation at Sulphur High School.  Everyone had the utmost respect for Bruce.  My condolences  to the family and all close associates.  This man w ill be remembered for years to come.  The best memory I have of Bruce is:  I smuggled a pair of white football shoes onto the bus so he could change into them when Coach Ronnie told him "No".
He played the whole game in white shoes.  I think we were playing LaGrange.  We all had a good laugh about it.  No doubt, he is in the hands of Jesus.

My care, condolences and prayers are with the family and friends of Bruce Hemphill.   Bruce was the consummate friend, scholar, and athlete.  He made a profound difference in the lives of others and in all blessed to know him.   I grew up with Bruce and his family in Maplewood, then to Sulphur High School, and then to Louisiana State University.   He exemplified the strength of kindess, the valor of faith, and the courage of heart.   I can only imagine how he inspired all those fortunate to be his teammate, being coached by him, or to serve with his as an athletic director.    Bruce was a man of honor and may memories of him, his life and his leadership on and off the field continue to inspire.   God bless you, Bruce and bless your beloved family and friends.   Michael J. Bruce was a childhood icon, for all us Maplewood and Sulphur High people.   I was raised with the Hemphill family brothers, and they all were first class people.  Later in my business life being connected to UNC Athletics , I oddly connected to  Bruce while he  was at UNC.   We had a hometown connection, and we became more than childhood acquaintances and became friends.  We shared some meaningful time together.   He became a client of my business and a close friend.  We stayed in contact from North Carolina when he went back to Sulphur area, and when back in Sulphur several times we met at Boiling Point for gumbo.  

I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing.  He was a first class man, humble, genuine, an admired friend, as he always interested in how I was doing, as I was him.   GOD BLESS BRUCE, his family, and GOD SPEED till we meet again 🙏❤️

The whole Hemphill's have been a part of the Moore Family as long as I can remember!
Bruce and my Dad were really close and Dad brought him to games at LSU to recruit him!
I know he is rejoicing now with Mr Fred, Mrs Rebecca and Greg!

My heart is sad for the loss. I can still remember as one of the “younger” brother groups watching Bruce play at Maplewood, Sulphur and LSU. He was always a class act and will be remembered and missed by all who had the opportunity to know him.
