Fred Cooke was loved and respected by many in the Southwest Louisiana area where he was born and lived his entire life. As a little league baseball and basketball coach; star at track, basketball, tennis and golf; a dedicated lab worker at the Conoco/Vista plant; a member of the Gideon's and Maplewood First Baptist Church; and as a highly respected and much-awarded antique car aficionado, Fred lived every moment with passion and unflagging integrity. His struggle toward the end of his life with the torments of Alzheimer's disease may have taken away his memories and a bit of his dignity, but it did not stop him for one moment in devoting himself to the care of his ailing wife of 60 years before her death, nor did it dampen his loving, playful, endlessly entertaining personality that delighted all who came in contact with him until his last days on earth.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose St. John Cooke, son, Fred Cooke Jr., and parents, Elbert Cooke and Emma Laura Cooke.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Lori Cooke; grandchildren, Maggie Cooke Duhon and husband, Andrew, Cody Cooke, Connor Cooke, Walter Scott, and Emma Scott; a great-granddaughter, Rose Louise Duhon; daughter-in-law, Christine Cooke; brother, Jack Cooke and wife, Dottie; numerous other extended family members and many golf and old car buddies.
