She was a native of Macon, Georgia and had been a resident of Sulphur for over 50 years. Faye had worked for Cameron Telephone Company, Calcasieu Cameron Hospital, and retired as a Letter Carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. She volunteered with a local grief coping group and enjoyed playing Pokeno. She was of the Christian faith and was previously a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and previously attended Celebration Worship Center, both in Sulphur.
Survivors include her children, Marty Gatte and wife, Patricia, Lonnie Gatte, John Gatte and wife, Kim, and Treena Gatte, all of Sulphur; three sisters, Betty Willingham of Macon, Georgia, June Suebeck of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Wanda Smith of Macon, Georgia; ten grandchildren, Alonnia McDaniel, Jennifer Gatte, Craig Gatte, Chelsey Gatte, Catherine Gatte, Jessica Gatte, Kallie Gatte, Paige Gatte, Johnny Gatte, and Brodey Gatte; and nine great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Ray Gatte; a daughter-in-law, Denise Gintz Gatte; her father, Thomas Bates Sr; her mother and step-father, Trellie Robertson Fudge and Leonard Fudge; and siblings, Thomas Bates Jr, William Bates, and Selma McCook.
A Celebration of Faye's Life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 20, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Roger Templeton will officiate assisted by Celebrant Jody Barrilleaux. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss. Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. Saturday, 1-9 p.m. Sunday, and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday in the funeral home.
