Delma Marie Blalock, 94, of Louisiana & Texas, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024. Born to Lawrence and Ada Trahan on September 7, 1929, in Gillis, Louisiana, Delma led a life full of love and dedication.
At 17, she met her future husband while he worked at a shoe store in Lake Charles and she was employed at a local bank. They married on April 19th, and soon after, Tom traveled to Spokane, Washington, to help his brother build a hotel. Delma joined him there by train and they married when she was 18. After Tom’s mother fell ill, they returned to Louisiana and eventually settled in Orange, where they spent most of their lives.
Delma worked for Dr. Fontenot in Bridge City, Texas, where Dr. Jones was interning. She continued working with Dr. Jones for over 20 years before retiring. Delma witnessed incredible changes during her lifetime, from outhouses and horses to indoor plumbing and cars with air conditioning.
Delma and Tom were blessed with four children: Brent, born in 1950, Dennis in 1951, Paul in 1952, and Cheryl in 1955. Delma truly provided her children with a wonderful life, leaving behind numerous Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Even Great Greats. She truly leaves behind a legacy of love and family.
A Celebration of Delma’s life will be held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, July 22, 2024 at 10:00 am, with Pastor Frank Thomas officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, from 8:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Birdnest Cemetery in Gillis, Louisiana.
