He was a native of Nashville, Arkansas and had been a resident of Sulphur for many years. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Sulphur, also serving as a missionary worker. Dave had gone on numerous mission trips as part of a ministry team serving in various countries by sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was a pharmacist and business owner, having owned Dave's Drugs for 43 years. He attended McNeese working on his pharmacy degree and while there, he played football where he received several awards. He later went on to the University of Houston to complete his pharmacy degree. Dave was instrumental in helping establish the pharmacy at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. He served as past President of the Louisiana Pharmacists Association.
Before going to pharmacy school, Dave served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was stationed in France. At this time, Dave and his high school sweetheart, Claire Louise Pelletier were engaged to be married and wrote to each other on a daily basis. When the war was over, he and thousands of other troops were unable to leave due to the massive number of troops still in the country. He remained in France for an additional year and a half, and while there, they established a football league. Dave’s team was called the “Atomites” and he received the Most Valuable Player award. Dave later married the love of his life, Louise, and they were married for 63 years. Their marriage was a dedication to loving each other.
