Dr. Chester "Chet" Lee Ellender DDS, RPh, 76, of Sulphur, Louisiana passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023 in Lake Charles, Louisiana surrounded by his loving family. He was born to his late parents, Jewell and Kathryn Ellender on November 16, 1946 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Dr. Chet was a Sulphur High graduate where he played trombone in the band. He graduated from Northeastern Louisiana University in Monroe, Louisiana with a Degree in Pharmacy. As a Pharmacist, he practiced for seven years while he attended Louisiana State University School of Dentistry. He started his own Dental practice where he remained for 40 years with locations in Sulphur and Lake Arthur. After retirement, he bought an enormous RV and enjoyed traveling all over the U.S. with his wife. He bought property about 10 years ago on Lake Livingston, Texas and enjoyed relaxing on the lake. Dr. Chet was always fascinated with technology and interested in trying new things, whether it be a new boat, a camera, or in his business practice. (i.e. making cookies in the dental office). He was also fanatically enthusiastic about old cars. His pride and joy in his later years was his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Dr. Judith "Judi" Ellender DDS; children, David Ellender (Robin) of Rosenberg, Texas, and Elizabeth Borel (Brian) of Westlake, Louisiana; two brothers, Jewell "J.C." Ellender (Jenny) of Choteau, Montana, and Kerry Ellender (Dru) of Sulphur, Louisiana; along with four grandchildren, Asher Borel, Levi Ellender, Judah Ellender, and Ember Borel.
A Celebration of Dr. Chet's life will be held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, Louisiana on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 2:00 pm, with Hixson Celebrant Jody Barrilleaux officiating. Visitation will begin prior to the service, starting at 1:00 pm. Burial will take place at a later date.
