She graduated from Sulphur High School in 1950, and married the love of her life on December 13, 1952 in an evening candlelit wedding at First Baptist Church of Sulphur. She was a stay at home mother to her two daughters until 1971. In 1972 she graduated with an associates degree from Sowela Tech. She retired after 20 years of working as a bookkeeper and computer operator for Lake Charles Mental Health.
Betty enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends after her retirement. She became interested in art after a visit with her sister-in-law and a few of her paintings now reside in the home of her daughters. She also enjoyed sewing and made almost all of her daughters’ clothing when they were young. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Sulphur.
She was preceded in death by her parents, E.W. and Emogene Dunnam; brother, Harold Dunnam; and son-in-law, Randy Cooper.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Guy L. Woodward; daughters, Susan Juneau and husband, David, and Brenda Cooper; grandchildren, Brandy Davis, Brooke Divita and husband, Dean, Janie Cooper, and Joseph Cooper; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Hailey, Brandon, Kyle, Ryan, and Caylie; sister-in-law, Theresa Adams; special friends, Pat and Sharyn Stanley, and J.D. and Emily Doucette; as well as numerous other church family and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Cornerstone for their care and compassion during Betty’s final days.
Serving as pallbearers will be Joseph Cooper, David Juneau, Pat Stanley, J.D. Doucette, Aaron Fletcher, and Daniel Fletcher.
Her funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 2, 2018 in First Baptist Church of Sulphur with Pastor Michael Linton officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm in the funeral home and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Friday in the church. Interment will follow at Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
