She was a native of Maurice and had been a resident of the Sulphur-Lake Charles area since 1969, coming from Biloxi, Mississippi. Bernice enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, crafting, and walking.
Survivors include her children, Tom J. Sonnier of Nashville, TN, George P. Sonnier, Roy L. Sonnier, Laura M. Webb, Patricia A. Greenlee, Mary C. "Teenie" May, and Joan M. Woody, all of Lake Charles, Rose M. Quebodeaux and Alice A. Lockhart of Sulphur, and Elizabeth A. "Lyz" Trahan of Vinton; twenty-five grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a son, Allen A. Sonnier.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Pastor Chris Guidroz will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery in Sulphur. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday with a rosary service at 6 p.m. and from 9 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
