Ben was a native of DeQuincy and had been a resident of Sulphur for most of his adult life. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and was a member of the American Legion Post #179, the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, and the Sulphur Masonic Lodge #424. He had been a member of First Baptist Church of Sulphur where he was an active member of the Agin' Cajuns. He retired from Citgo after over 35 years of service. Ben enjoyed fishing, whistling, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his son, the Rev. Benjamin J. Lyons, III and wife, Donna Marie of Vinton; three grandchildren, Kristina Hershberger and husband, Brett, June McBride and husband, Rich, and Allen "Jake" Lyons and wife, Briana; great-grandchildren, Adam, Marley, Dylan, Aubrey, Kaylee, and Jacob; step-children, Charlotte Daspit, James Grogan Jr, Jeffrey Grogan, Ronald Grogan, Elizabeth McKinney, and Richard Grogan; and numerous nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his spouses, Mamie D. Wooten Lyons and Ruth McDonald Grogan Lyons; three children, Albert Lyons, Mary Catherine Lyons, and an infant son; and siblings, Beatrice Pharis Banken, Marguerite LeDoux, and Lucille Floyd.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015, in First Baptist Church of Sulphur. The Rev. Dr. Andy Buckley will officiate. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery in DeQuincy under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday in the church.
