Walter Kent Newman, born on May 30, 1963, in Houston, Texas, passed away on October 30, 2024. Walter was a devoted son, husband, and father who chose to be a stay-at-home Dad during the first years of his children’s lives. He worked as a warehouse packing manager and was a proud graduate of Memorial High School, where he embraced his passion for sports, excelling in football and pole vaulting.
Walt was an avid sports fan, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, Houston Astros and many other local teams. A competitive spirit, he loved playing cornhole with family and friends, always striving to win. His love for nature was evident in his beautiful yard filled with hibiscus plants, flowers, and many hummingbird feeders!
Fishing was a cherished tradition for Walt, who enjoyed countless hours on the water with his father, brothers, and son. He carried these memories in his heart, surrounded by the laughter and camaraderie of family.
Walt is preceded in death by his father, Elmer Newman; Aunt Suzy and Uncle Robert Guntz; Cousin Steve Guntz; Aunt Clara and Uncle Eldon Tommey; Uncle Conrad Newman; Aunt Jean and Uncle Willard Siegel; and his beloved family dog, Tippy Louise.
He leaves behind his beloved partner and best friend of 35 years, Becky Newman, as well as his cherished children, Jenny Jane and Nick Newman. He is also survived by his mother, Jenny Lou Newman; brothers Andy Newman (Debbie), Mat Newman, and Ron Newman; Aunt Betty Newman, nieces and nephews: Kate Gerbman (Greg), Great Nephew Conrad and Niece Maeve, Vic Newman (Kara), Great Niece Sabrina, Ernest Alvarez (Mariana), and Sophia Newman; and numerous beloved cousins.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Walter's close-knit group of friends from Memorial High School who supported him through visits and calls. Special thanks also to Toccarra Sigler, Walt's dedicated caregiver, who provided compassionate care as if he were her own family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Palms to Paws Veterinary Surgery and Wellness Clinic in Walter's memory.
Walter Newman will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and his legacy of love, kindness, and competitive spirit will never be forgotten.
A celebration of life for Walter will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 4:00 PM at The Settegast-Kopf Company at Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, TX 77478. A reception is to follow in the Event room.
The family is encouraging guests to wear Dallas Cowboy gear or their favorite football team attire in honor of Walt during the service.
