Tim was very into ancestry and genealogy. He started a Facebook page for the Detter family and discovered the Detters were related to Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton. This began a thirst for knowledge that took years and soon Tim started writing a book about his findings. Tim was also the expert in all things relating to who, where, what, and why the Detter family tree expanded as it had. Tim has two sons, Michael Lawrence Detter, who lives in Houston, and Jamison Robert Detter, resides with his mother in Wisconsin. He also has a stepdaughter, Kristen McKee who lives in League City. Tim was married to Debbie for almost five years this April. It was both of their second marriages, and they were fortunate to have found one another and celebrated the time they had together. Tim enjoyed travelling to other parts of the country: Madison, Wisconsin; New York; New Orleans; Las Vegas; Chico, Texas; Claremore, Oklahoma; Nickerson, Kansas; and Key West were just a few of the trips he went on. He was planning on taking a cruise to Hawaii with Debbie over spring break. Tim loved eating great food. His favorite food was chili, of course. He loved fast food, fries, and diet cokes just as much as a steak or hamburger he’d grill outside. The most important meal of the day was breakfast which he loved to cook up in the kitchen each morning for him and his wife. Bacon and eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy, and pancakes were just a few of his best morning meals. He loved listening to all types of music and sometimes it would surprise you to hear rap and top 40 on his ear buds. He always enjoyed sharing his music with everyone on Facebook. Tim also loved Kansas University! Go Jayhawks Rock, Chalk, and Roll! Recently, U of H lost to KU in basketball and I know he was secretly pleased to beat his wife’s alumni. Frenchy, Tim’s border collie, continues to look out the window waiting patiently for him to drive up in the white Ford Focus. He always played with her in the morning. Although he couldn’t move quite as fast as he did in the past, she would jog around the living room with a toy or grab his sock after he took it off so he would chase her. He always said she’s the smartest dog he ever had! Tim was introspective, kind, gentle, and never judgmental. He was always helpful to those in need. He enjoyed talking to others and often would begin a conversation with “Where are you from?” This would immediately have the person opening up to him. Tim was an estate attorney before feeling the need to serve others through his pursuit of medicine as a family physician. He discussed whether he should change professions one evening during dinner with Dr. Red Duke and Dr. Duke told Tim he should go for it. Tim was hospitalized for pneumonia in 2017 which eventually led to chronic kidney failure in 2023. All through the dialysis, Tim never complained and continued to work full-time as much as possible. He loved what he was doing and enjoyed working with his colleagues, nurses, and medical assistants at West Houston Family Practice. The relationships he had with his patients brought him the most joy. Tim would often go above and beyond for his patients. Anyone that knew Tim also realized he was not a Trump fan. He always watched CNN and would debate political party standings with family and friends.
Tim leaves behind his loving wife Debbie Detter, Parents John and Kay Detter, stepdaughter Kristen Leigh McKee, sons Michael Lawrence Detter and Jamison Robert Detter, sister Shirley Detter Sanden and her spouse Joel Sanden, and his brother Travis Detter and his spouse Gigi Detter.
The family would like to give special thanks to all of the doctors and nurses at HCA Healthcare West, West Houston Family Practice, and Dr. Peracha for everything you have done for Tim.
In Lieu of flowers the family asks if donations can be made in memory of Tim to the American Kidney foundation.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, March 9 at 2 pm at Settegast-Kopf company at Sugar creek.
