Pat grew up in the small Texas town of Devine and later moved to San Antonio, Texas where he attended college graduating from Trinity University in 1963. In the 70’s, Pat moved to Houston. He discovered West University Place, where he moved in the mid 70’s and never left.
His career spanned from his college graduation until his death. His early career was in finance and then he spent many years in the Oil and Gas Industry. He opened his beloved shop, La Taste, in the Houston Rice Village in 1985 and then shop owner became his favorite career.
Pat was an avid art collector with extensive knowledge in pottery, from Mexico to France. His love of art included original paintings, pottery, antiques, sculptures and more. He amassed a vast art collection over many years which now adorns his beautiful home.
Travel was Pat’s most favorite hobby and Taos, New Mexico and France were his happy places. An avid Francophile, he was truly happiest in the Provence Region of France, making a picnic on the side of the road with food and wine purchased in a village market on the way. Pat developed a taste of finer things and especially food. Foodie became another favorite hobby. He was always planning a delicious meal, in a special place or a favorite restaurant or in his stunning dining room. Or on the patio overlooking the valley in Taos. The celebration of food and wine was always in his life.
A true fan of the Arts, he loved New York, the museums and Broadway. He cherished the Opera and had an extensive knowledge of many performances and performers and could talk for hours about the various operas and music from them.
Pat was an animal lover too. He was well known in West University by all the neighborhood cats who were without a home. They always found their way to his home, where he would capture them and take them for vaccinations and then care for them lovingly for the rest of their lives. There were no homeless cats in West U thanks to Pat Meeks!
Pat will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his quick wit and truly charming personality. He touched many lives.
