Thelma Eva Whitaker

THELMA HAMLIN WHITAKER, age 86, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2011. She was born November 28, 1924, in Dobson, North Carolina, to Sid and Eva Sanford Hamlin. Thelma was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton, VA. For the past seven years, she has been a resident at The Terrace, a senior living community in Sugar Land, TX. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Glenn Whitaker. She is survived by three daughters, Joan W. Stoerner and her husband Greg of Sugar Land, TX, Bonnie F. Whitaker of Dallas, TX, and Glenda W. Kroll of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Jeffrey L. Stoerner of Boulder, CO, Leslie C. Stoerner of Houston,TX,and Katherine E. Kroll of Austin, TX; brother, Marvin Hamlin of Pilot Mountain, NC; sisters, Dorothy Hayes of Elkin, NC, Eleanor Leedy of Decatur, GA, and Carolyne Badgett of Dobson, NC; as well as many nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at Parklawn Memorial Park, in Hampton, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Memorial Hermann Foundation, 929 Gessner, Suite 2650, Houston, TX 77024. For those desiring, donations in Thelma’s memory may be made to the Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, Neonatal ICU, in c/o the Memorial Hermann Foundation.
