11/17/1951 – 12/18-2023
Steve passed away peacefully at his home after a lengthy illness on December 18, 2023. Steve was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He attended Catholic High School where he excelled in sports, particularly baseball. He received a four year scholarship from Louisiana State University in baseball. Steve was an avid and dedicated LSU fan. Upon graduation from LSU he started coaching at Catholic High. He was then recruited by East Ascension High School in Gonzales, Louisiana to be their head baseball coach. He left coaching in the 80’s to work in the oil and gas industry. He excelled as a salesman for various companies before moving up to the executive level.
Steve was loved by everyone he met. His kindness, smile and quick laughter were irresistible. One of his biggest joys in life were his dogs, Sophie and Callie. They gave him great comfort during his final days. When his final time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength and full of love for his family and friends. He will be missed dearly.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Pam, his children Katy, Erin (Rachel) and Eric (Alyson), and grandchildren Braden, Addison and Kian; along with his brother, Mike (Martha), his paternal aunt, Stephanie Whitty and uncle, Dr. Sid Lawton, Sr. as well as beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Steve is preceded in death by his mother, Thais Lawton Mire, father, Albin “Rip” Collins and step-father, Caleb Mire.
Our family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the caregivers that showed great compassion and gentleness while monitoring Steve’s well-being and medical needs. In particular his nurse, Pan. The outpouring of prayers and love for Steve and our family has been an enormous comfort during this difficult time.
