ROBERT J. (BOB) SEERDEN, a dedicated husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, good friend to many, excellent attorney, highly respected former justice, and chief justice of the thirteenth court of appeals, died peacefully, with his family by his side, on December 15, 2013.
Bob graduated from St. Thomas High School (Houston, Texas), University of Houston, and the Bates College of Law (Houston, Texas). His unique feeling and compassion for humanity led him to a life of service, both in his practice of law and personal life. Following graduation from law school, Bob moved to Victoria, Texas to practice and serve in various public roles throughout his legal career. This included City Attorney (1960-1962), Municipal Judge (1962-1964), and Criminal District Attorney of Victoria County (1971-1976). In 1984, Bob moved to Corpus Christi to serve as a justice for the Thirteenth Court of Appeals. In 1993, he became Chief Justice of the Court, until his retirement in 2000.
Bob served in numerous leadership roles in countless community organizations. He helped many in the legal profession to deal with their problems with alcoholism and drug addiction.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Robbie Seerden; and his son, Stephen H. Seerden. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Pavlu Seerden; children, Robin Talley of Austin,Texas, Tom Seerden and wife, Gayle of Sugar Land, Texas, and Lisa Stevenson and husband, Bobby of New Braunfels, Texas; six grandchildren, Heather Scobee, Christopher Talley and wife Laura, Erin Talley, Lyndsey Seerden, Lauren Stevenson, and Kelsey Seerden; and three great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by one brother, William F. Seerden, of Victoria, Texas.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Greatwood Senior Living Facility and Silverado Hospice of Sugar Land, Texas.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 3502 Saratoga Blvd, Corpus Christi, Texas, with a reception immediately following in the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be directed to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge Houston, The Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Coastal Bend or the charity of your choice.
