Robert “Bob” Morley passed away in his home on January 19, 2025, just 7 weeks before his 90th birthday. His wife, Carolyn, was with him when he passed.
Born March 7, 1935, in Clinton, Massachusetts, Bob was the second of Harry and Lillian Morley’s three sons. He graduated from Highland Park High School (New Jersey) in 1953 and earned a Bachelors degree in Political Science from Central College (Iowa) in 1957. After graduation, Bob taught at Pennington Prep School (New Jersey) for five years, working summers as a mail carrier. During his final year at Pennington, he met Carolyn Lacy of Salem, New Jersey, who was the newly hired school nurse. The two were married on June 9, 1962, and they remained together until his death 62 years later.
Also in 1962, Bob began his new career as a Foreign Service Officer. During the next 33 years, he worked at Embassies in Norway, Barbados, Poland, Venezuela, and Ecuador, with a return to Venezuela just before retirement. He already knew some German because his mother spoke the language but he improved on that and also learned Norwegian, Polish, and Spanish. Highlights of his career included meeting Presidents Carter, Reagan, (HW) Bush, and Clinton, the Queen of England, and Clint Eastwood, who was making a movie in Norway; working to improve human rights in Cuba; participating in meetings at the United Nations; testifying before Congress; and spending two years attached to the National Security Council in the White House. Bob retired with the rank of Ambassador and the military equivalent of a 2-Star General.
During those same 33 years, Bob and Carolyn raised 4 children. Bob coached baseball and soccer, held positions on School Boards at various international schools, and shared the load of running the household since Carolyn worked full-time as a nurse.
After retirement in 1995, Bob earned his Masters in US History from George Mason University (Virginia). He continued to be active in his community - working election polls, holding positions on community committees, starting book clubs, and volunteering with Carolyn to deliver Meals an Wheels - for as long as he was able to do so.
Bob was pre-deceased by his parents, Harry and Lillian, two brothers, Richard and James, and two sons, David and Dennis. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, son Timothy (Anneke), daughter Karen (Joseph), grandchildren Paul, Mark, Sarah, Scott, Elizabeth, Ian, Andrew, Ryan, Brian, Finnigan, Megan, Samuel, Dylan, Cecelia, and Atticus, honorary grandchildren Matthew, Anna, and Jordan, and honorary great-grandson Hayes.
The family would like to thank the staff at Forever Love Care, The Village at Sugarland, Angels Care Home Health, and Sahara Hospice for their care and support.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Fort Bend County Seniors Meals on Wheels at 1330 Band Rd, Rosenberg TX, 77471.
