ROBERT LINCOLN DEAN, age 81, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2013, in Sugar Land,TX. “Bob” was born on October 21, 1931, in Orange, New Jersey, to Barbara Heininger Dean and John Marshall Dean, joining his older brother Marshall. Bob graduated from West Orange, New Jersey public schools and attended the University of Virginia, graduating in 1954, with a Degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of the Raven Society, Phi Sigma Kappa and the Army ROTC. Upon graduating, he served in the Army Signal Corp at Fort Huachuca, AZ, where he met his future wife, Marilyn Hartell. They married in July of 1957, and recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. Bob achieved a Masters in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati, in 1959. He worked in the Petrochemical Industry as a Chemical Engineer until the age of 78. He worked for Esso Research and Engineering Co. (1957-1961), Scientific Design Co. (1961-1963), Witco Chemical Corp. (1963- 1975), J.E. Sirrine Company (1975-1977), SMC McEver, Inc. (1977-1994), and finally Schenectady International (1994-2009). Bob achieved his Professional Engineering license in 1975 and became a member of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. In later years, he served as a member of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), assisting in exam preparation.
Outside of work Bob enjoyed his family and pets, traveling, bowling, and serving in his church. Bob volunteered with the East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry for many years and he served in church leadership eventually becoming the first Elder Emeritus for the First Presbyterian Church of Sugar Land.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara and Marshall Dean; and his only brother, Marshall Dean, Jr. Bob is survived by his wife, Marilyn; and his three daughters, Deborah and her husband David of Sugar Land, TX, Linda and her husband David of Moscow, ID, and Diana and her husband, John of Birmingham, AL; as well as her grandchildren, Mary Kate and her husband, Ben, Carolyn, Andrew, Robert,
Meredith, John Blaine, Susan, Stuart, and Kailee.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 17, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church of Sugar Land, 502 Eldridge Road.
