Rebecca was the best mother, wife, sister, aunt, friend, and mentor anyone could ever hope for in this world. Rebecca lived every moment to the fullest and treasured every second with her son, Josef and husband Fred and her siblings Ronnie, Ray, Kathy, and brother-in-law James, nieces Kamille and Wendy, nephews Colin and Bogdan, God-son Coral, sister-in-law Wen, and all of her friends, colleagues and students.
Rebecca as a young student and athlete was a star and went on to become a spectacular teacher, attorney, judge, professor, education program writer and director, grant writer and supervisor, author, and speaker. She was an accomplished horsewoman and loved the outdoors, traveling, gardening, swimming, scuba diving, pitching softball, and walked 5-10 miles daily most of her life.
Her fierce determination and love of life inspired her family, friends, colleagues, and students to be better, do better and to move forward with love and laughter. Rebecca’s encouragement, passion for life and devotion was unequaled. She worked tirelessly to obtain education grants, developed leadership programs, taught, and mentored hundreds and hundreds of graduate students, and built block by block excellence in the field of education leadership. Throughout the Covid crisis Rebecca worked nonstop with compassion encouraging, counseling, and comforting the educators under her care as they struggled with the illness and loss of loved ones. She was never too busy to listen and to help as they faced the daily struggles in their lives and classrooms.
Rebecca’s passing leaves a hole in our hearts beyond measure, but we are comforted by the knowledge that she is with the Lord, her beloved son Josef, and the rest of her heavenly family for this Christmas and all eternity.
Rebecca is survived by her husband Fred, her brother Ray Van Keuren, her sister Kathleen Van Keuren McIver and brother-in-law James McIver, her nieces Kamille McIver and Wendy Rossi, her nephews Colin McIver and Bogdan Karpenko, her God-son Coral Keyes and her sister-in-law Wen Rossi.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her son Josef Frederick Schlosser, her mother Barbara Lee Van Keuren, her father Russell T. Van Keuren, her brother Ronald G. Rossi, her grandparents Clarence (Jack) and Ora Lee Hogue and Al and Alma Dewert, and her great-grandparents Charles and Eliza Lear.
