Rebecca Long, age 97, of Houston, Texas passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
Please join us in honoring the life of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Rebecca Lummus Long who went to be with the Lord on July 11, 2024. She was born August 30, 1926 at home in Gause, Texas to Leon and Dorothy Lummus. Growing up in Gause, Rebecca became affectionately known as 'Red' for her unique long red hair, a nickname that stuck with her all of her life. At the age of 16 she moved to Houston, Texas and began working as a secretary for Leroy Melcher, where she eventually met the love of her life, Richard Long. They were married in 1946 and welcomed twin girls Janice and Becky in 1948, who together with their big sister, Lydia, completed their family.
Rebecca later worked for Long Engineering Corp, which was owned and operated by her husband Richard. She went on to earn her Associate's degree from South Texas College while her daughters attended high school, and finally, retired from W-K-M after many years of service.
Rebecca enjoyed attending First United Methodist Church on Fellow's Road, playing in a ukulele band with friends, working on crossword puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune, and spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Dorothy Lummus, her sister, Polly Ferguson, and her husband, Richard Long.
She is survived by twin daughters, Janice O'Keeffe and Rebecca Servat, and step-daughter, Lydia Vaughn, grandchildren, Michael Servat, Susannah Olsen, and Kevin O'Keeffe, and 7 great grandchildren.
A visitation for Rebecca will be held Thursday, July 25, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at The Settegast-Kopf Company at Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, TX 77478. A funeral service will occur Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 4:00 PM at The Settegast-Kopf Company@Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, Texas 77478. A catered reception will occur Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 5:00 PM at The Settegast-Kopf Company@Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, Texas 77478. A graveside will occur Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale St, Houston, TX 77023.
