Auntie Paula, such an amazing women(even though you are a cubs fan). Always a positive person, always so happy, always so generous and caring to others. I'm so greatful to have wonderful memories to cherish forever. I wish Connor had the privilege to meet such an amazing women. You will be missed by so many people. Now you have no more pain, no more suffering, and now with your soulmate for eternity.

It was my pleasure to know you. My heart goes out to your family-especially your children- as they adjust to this new phase without you. These fine young men are a testament to you as a mother. You will not be forgotten as they carry out Edward's and your legacy.

EULOGY FOR MY FREIND

Thank you for being here today. I know I speak for my nephews, their families, my sisters and my neice, when I say how much your presence is appreciated. 
When my brother Bud, or Ed as some of you knew him, started dating, Paula, she fit perfectly into our family right from the beginning. She became one of us.  She was never a "sister-in-law", but immediately a sister.  Her family was also absorbed into ours. They were included in our celebrations and their losses were felt keenly by all of us. we met.

I cherish the relationship that I had with Paula.  We were nine months apart & were close from the time  After they moved to Houston, we kept in touch by long phone calls. When she & Bud would come home for Christmas or any other times, they would stay with Bruce & I. This gave us a chance to spend time together & do the shopping that she loved so much. She was always dressed to a T. She not only had shoes and hose to match every outfit but the jewelry to go with it as well. Her hair was alway styled perfectly... of course, it didn't hurt that she worked at salons most of her life. Until she became ill, she pretty much looked the same as she did on her wedding day.

She was a great mother & loved her boys so much and they in turn have always been there for her. They were such a great support when Bud was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer.  Frequently, she would say to me, "Een, my boys have been so good and done so much, I dont know what I would do without them."  They were a constant source of stregnth during the year of Bud's illness.
And when she was diagnosed with cancer three months after he died, they rallied again & seemlessly organized schedules to be there for anything she needed. Russell, David & Phil were her pride & joy and they have become men that she could be very proud of. I know I am. 

Russell and David married women who became the daughters that Paula had always wanted & she truly loved them and the grandchildren & great grandchildren they gave her. D'Anna & Courtney, I can never thank you enough for making her so happy. Many a phone call would detail the things going on in everyone's lives. I heard about Skylar's cheer leading program and all the traveling involved in it. Paula was thrilled to have someone who appreciated "bling" as much as she did.  She would tell me about all the neat concerts & events that Becca was at for her job in security. I was kept informed when Chris & Jen got their house. After Alyssa and Chris were born, I would hear about the things they did and what characters they were. She & Bud were excited to be great grandparents and thrilled that Chris was born on my Dad's birthday. Bruce & I were happy to be able to spend so much time with them all when we stayed in Galveston for the month of January.  

After my sister Gloria died, the rest of the sisters started having a girls' weekend every year. When Paula turned 60, we suprised her by coming to Houston & taking her with us for the weekend in San Antonio.  She had never come with us before & we wanted to do something special for her 60th. We spent a day in Galveston & then 2 days on the Riverwalk. It was a trip we reminisced about often.  It was just further proof of how much we loved her.

I can't talk about Paula without talking about her beloved Cubs.  Not being a huge baseball fan, but being brought up on the southside of Chicago, I leaned toward the White Sox. She never actually held this against me, but I know she didn't really approve. I learned early in our relationship to check the Cubs schedule before I would call her, otherwise most of what she said consisted of "uh-huh".
When she came into Chicago last year, we went to visit one of my aunts who was in a nursing home. While we were on our way home, I was telling her some story & after a while without comment, I looked over at her & finally realized she had ear buds in and was watching the game on her phone. It was a quiet ride home other than scary outbursts at a good or bad play. 

I'm going to miss my Pauliana as I know you all will. I take comfort knowing she is at peace & without pain and most of all reunited with the love of her life, Bud. She missed him so much and seemed lost without him. I'm sure she was welcomed with open arms by her parents, Phil & Sylvia and her beloved Aunt Lynn & Uncle Johnny as well as her second parents, my mom & dad, John & Pat. Then she will have run the gamut of all my brothers & sister, aunts & uncles who always considered her theirs.  

As my Aunt Mickey,  who will be there to welcome her, used to always say, "This day will be a glorious celebration in Heaven". One of God's angels has come home.

Oh Paula, God must've needed your help to take you at such a young age. Maybe Bud was missing you too much. I'm glad you two are together again. What a tremendous mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother  and sister-in-law you have been.You will be missed. I will miss our phone calls. Bless you.
