Paul attended Deer Park High School where he excelled in academics and extracurriculars. Paul was noted as a National Merit Scholar as well as a member of the Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society and Junior Engineering Technical Society. Outside of his studies, Paul was a top ranked tennis player.
Paul obtained his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University. After graduation, Paul worked for Phillips Petroleum on both domestic and European assignments. Paul then continued his education earning his M.S. and Ph.D from the University of Texas at Austin for his work on laser sintering and homopolar pulse welding. Paul went on to work the remainder of his career as a mechanical engineer at Fluor Corporation, acting as a technical expert in rotating equipment as well as a mentor to junior engineers. Paul was a licensed professional engineer who served on the Subcommittee on Mechanical Equipment for the American Petroleum Institute.
Paul was a passionate lifelong learner who would deep-dive into a variety of subjects from history and finance, to more practical endeavors including woodworking, coffee roasting, grilling, and collecting shaving razors and tobacco pipes. In his time away from learning, Paul loved to go antiquing, play board games with his family, and most of all, tell cringe-worthy dad jokes.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 33 year, Margaret “Peggy” Haase; his parents Paul G. and Erna Haase; his daughters Allison Adelle Haase and Erica Marie Haase; his sons Paul Murphy Haase and William Wade Haase; his sister Sharon Akers; as well as many siblings-in-law and nieces and nephews.
