Michael Nelson

Michael D. Nelson of Houston, TX (formerly Richardson, TX) passed away on July 31, 2023. Born in Crowell, TX on December 20, 1947, Michael was the son of O.B. and Shirley Nelson. Mike was raised in the small West Texas towns of Levelland, Lamesa, and Brownfield.

Mike graduated from Wellman High School in 1966. After marrying his high school sweetheart just a few months after graduation, he made a life for his family in and around Lubbock, TX as owner of Texas Oil Transports. Mike was also a proud Texas Tech Red Raider. After moving to Richardson, TX in 1986, Mike worked a short time for the Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission as an auditor before joining Burch Management, where he remained until retirement in 2012.

Mike was an avid history buff, an Alaska fanatic and a true Texan. He also enjoyed road tripping excursions across Texas and the U.S., most notably a tour of the Texas King Ranch and a 7 week road trip to and around Alaska. But what Mike most enjoyed in this world was his family.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, O.B. and Shirley Nelson, and his brother, Gary Nelson. He is survived by his loving wife Beth Nelson, daughter Jana Sabatino and her husband Tony, son Scott Nelson and his wife Betty, and daughter Robyn Wagnon and her husband Rob; six grandchildren, Collin Wagnon, Owen Nelson, Nikki Sabatino, Rene Garces, Dennis Garces, and Anahi Garces. In addition, Mike is also survived by his sister Janet Goodwin and her husband Jimmy and brother-in-law Robert McCarley and his wife Tracy; and nieces and nephews, Gena Douglas, Jill Cloud, Zachary Nelson, Haley McCarley and Cade McCarley.
