

Merrie Jean Peters, a devoted educator, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, in Sugar Land, Texas. She was 76 years old.
Born on July 20, 1948, in Port Arthur, Texas, Merrie Jean was a woman of deep compassion, unwavering dedication, and joyful spirit. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Special Education, which became the foundation of her lifelong mission to serve others. For 45 years, Merrie Jean worked in special education, touching countless lives with her patience, wisdom, and love. Her passion for learning and helping others led her to own and operate businesses focused on education, continuing her impact well beyond the classroom.
Merrie Jean found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid reader, a lover of both indoor and outdoor gardening, and a curious traveler always seeking new experiences. Her love of music filled her home, especially during Christmas—her favorite time of year. Merrie Jean delighted in decorating with her cherished Christmas snow village collections and never missed a chance to share the holiday spirit with friends and family.
She had a special love for animals, especially the family pets who brought her joy and companionship. She also enjoyed shopping for clothes and jewelry, always with an eye for something unique and full of personality—just like her.
Merrie Jean is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Jones and Marie Eckols. She is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Dennis Peters; her daughters, Lauren Peters and Blair Krebs (Doug Krebs); and her sister, Elizabeth Griffin (Mike Griffin). She is also lovingly remembered by her niece Emily Lumpkin (Wayne) and their children, Trevor and Penelope, as well as her nephew Jason Dominy (Tessa) and their daughter Olivia.
Merrie Jean’s legacy is one of love, laughter, compassion, and resilience. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Merrie Jean’s memory to Brookwood Community, 1752 FM 1489, Brookshire, Texas 77423.
A celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, April 27 at 11am at The Settegast-Kopf Co @ Sugar Creek on 15015 Southwest Frwy Sugar Land, Texas 77478. A catered reception will follow
