MARIE STEEN, age 88, of Houston, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2013, at Silverado Senior Living, in Sugar Land. She was born November 5, 1924, in Gonzales County, Texas, to the late Jesse Lee and Georgie Ophelia May Martin. Marie was a resident of Houston for over 40 years and a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church. She was married to Frank William Steen for 45 years.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Steen; sister, Evelyn E. Rudin; and brothers, Tommy L. Martin and Kenneth Martin. She is survived by her step-son, Bill Steen and his wife Donna of Houston; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marie was a very enterprising lady. She owned and operated a Toy Store in Dallas, Texas, the love of her life, before moving to Houston. Also, her passion was buying and remodeling older homes, and having her farms and cows. Anyone that knew Marie knows that she was a lady of fashion and was known as Ms. Neiman Marcus; they loved her.
She was an avid golfer, and long-time member of Brae Burn Country Club. Marie was a past President of the Brae Burn Women’s Golf Association and on the Board of the American Cancer Golf Charities for 20 or more years. She loved to entertain in her home and was asked many times to entertain foreign and domestic dignitaries who were in town. Marie also enjoyed playing bridge and loved her family and friends. She was always there with a helping hand.
The family wishes to thank the care givers at Silverado Senior Living in Sugar Land, Silverado Hospice, and Always Best Care, Fort Bend. There is a special thanks to Cindy and Neal for the special time and care spent with Marie.
A Memorial Service will held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 20, 2013, at The Settegast-Kopf Co. at Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land (Williams Trace Exit).
