LESLIE ERSKINE HUYE, of Missouri City, Texas, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015. Leslie was born in Guymon, Oklahoma, December 20, 1973, and was raised in Lake Jackson, Texas. She was a 1992 graduate of Brazoswood High School, where she was an honor student and highly decorated member of the varsity swim team. Leslie also had a life-long passion for science and medicine, achieving another of her many goals by graduating Summa Cum Laude from Texas A & M University in 1996, with a degree in Genetics followed by a PhD in Immunology in 2002 from Baylor College of Medicine. It was during her time at Baylor that Leslie met the love of her life and fellow Aggie and on March 20, 1999, she married Steven Joseph Huye. Shortly after their marriage Leslie and Steve moved to Durham, North Carolina, where Leslie completed her post-doctoral work at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Steve and Leslie returned to the Houston area in 2005, where she became an Instructor at Baylor’s Center for Cell and Gene Therapy where she continued her work to find new forms of treatment for cancer patients and where she remained an active member until her death.
Leslie was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, LaDonna and Murrel Morehart; paternal grandfather, Jack Erskine; as well as uncle, Gary Morehart. A beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister, she is survived by her husband, Steve Huye; children, Joshua and Lauren of Missouri City, Texas; her parents, John and Pat Erskine of Lake Jackson, Texas; sister, Marsha Erskine of The Woodlands, Texas; paternal grandmother, Mary Erskine of Lake Jackson, Texas; aunt, Linda Peterman and husband Gary of Alva, Oklahoma; and uncle, Jim Erskine of Lake Jackson, Texas. Leslie is also survived by her father and mother-in-law, Richard and Claudia Huye of Montgomery, Texas; sister-in-law, Mary Summers and husband Andy of Allen, Texas; and brother-in-law, Richard Huye, Jr. and wife Stephanie of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and numerous other loving relatives and friends.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 4:00 PM to 8:00PM, Friday, January 9, 2015, at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land (Williams Trace Exit). A Celebration of Leslie’s life will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 10, 2015, at Harvest United Methodist Church, 9029 Sienna Ranch Rd., Missouri City. Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park, in Rosenberg.
