Larry Lee January of Sugar Land, Texas, lost his fight with lung and heart diseases. Larry was born October 17, 1930, in Delia, Texas to Charles and Anna Bell Dorough January. He is survived by his wife, Helen Lewis January, son Gary and wife Diane, son Don and wife Sharon, grandchildren Charles, Lesley, and Jennifer, loving cousins Annalee Richardson, Michael January, Joy Johnston, “Bubba” Paris, dear friends David Greenberg, Robin Wells, Vickie Weeks, and “Toby” his faithful Jack Russell Terrier. He was predeceased by his parents and a son, Larry “Rusty” January, Jr. Larry graduated from San Jacinto High School with the classes of 1949-50 and then attended University of Houston for two years, first as a welder, then Larry opened January’s AC & Appliances on Bissonnet in Bellaire, Texas, which became a great success. Larry began investing in real estate in and around Bellaire, Texas. He attended the Houston Police Academy which enabled him to serve Harris County and Ft. Bend County as both a Deputy Constable and County Commissioner. Larry was proud to be a Charter Member and “Director January” of Citizen’s National Bank of Texas in Bellaire, and later a Director at Sugar Creek Country Club. His membership at The Houston Golf Association pleased him. Larry was a dedicated Mason, as was his father. He was a member of the Sugar Land Lodge 1141, and recently of Lodge 1403. For 25 years he enjoyed games with the Harris County Senior Softball League, first as short stop then as pitcher. The Lancers Dance Club was where he and Helen met, dated, and fell in love. They married October 12, 2006, surrounded by family and friends at their beautiful home in Sugar Creek. Larry and Helen purchased land in Montgomery County, and named it “January’s 90 Acres.” He enjoyed building a barn, and clearing and planting some of the land, with the hope it would support his goats, donkeys, and Guineas. Larry will be greatly missed.
