Karyn Marie Irwin (Vecchio) passed away at home surrounded by family on February 29th in Sugar Land, Texas at the age of 48. Karyn was born on October 1st, 1971 in Fort Benning, Georgia to Arlene (Leszczynski) and John Vecchio.
She graduated from Mount de Sales Academy in 1989, received her bachelor’s degree in education from Emory University in 1993, and received her master’s degree in education from the University of Georgia in 1995. Karyn’s desire for helping others led her into education, where she worked her entire career. Her most recent role, which she loved and felt extremely rewarded by, was working for Western Governors University in higher education. She moved from Athens, Georgia to Houston, Texas in 2000 while dating her future husband, Chris Irwin. The two married in Houston in 2002. Karyn was a true adventurer and loved the outdoors, with a great fondness for hiking and camping. Her ultimate passion in life was raising her two boys and spending time with family. Karyn’s infectious smile would light up the room. She could, and did, make friends with anyone and everyone, and she touched the lives of so many with her generosity and kindness. She was an amazing wife and amazing mother to her boys. Her family is heartbroken by her tragic passing, but we feel blessed for the time we had with her.
Karyn was proceeded in death by her father, John Vecchio. She is survived by her loving mother, Arlene Vecchio, her husband Chris Irwin, two sons Gavin and Blake Irwin, her sister and brother-in-law Michelle (Vecchio) and Joe Weinmeister, her niece and nephews Cleo, Nathan and Karl Weinmeister and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
A visitation is scheduled from 5-8 P.M. on Sunday, March 8th, 2020 at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @Sugar Creek. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 A.M. on Monday, March 9th, 2020 at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Blvd. in Sugar Land.
