Moving to Houston with his parents, Joe and Ruth Gaffney and his siblings, Judy Konieczny and Patrick Gaffney, Joe was educated in the local Catholic parochial schools and graduated from St. Thomas High School, Class of 1953. Following graduation, Joe began his lifelong career in Engineering/Drafting in a number of oil and gas companies.
Joe’s easy going and friendly manner will be sorely missed by the family and his friends.
Preceding Joe’s passing were his wife, Helen; and his parents, Joe and Ruth Gaffney. Surviving family members include three children, Bobby, Leslie, and Loren; his stepsons, Jeff and Gary Bitting; sister, Judy; and brother, Patrick.
The family wishes to thank all of Joe’s caregivers, and in particular, Sandy Olive, for their dedication and support. We also wish to thank Dr. Charles S. De John, of the V.A., for his medical care and advice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 5, 2012, in the Chapel of The Divine Mercy at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Blvd., Sugar Land, with the Rev. Jamie M. Abercrombie, C.S.B., officiating. The Rite of Committal will follow at 2:30 PM, at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s memory may be made to the Saint Thomas High School Annual Fund @www.sths.org.
