Jeffry John Wiley

Jeffry John Wiley died peacefully at home on March 7, just days after his 76th birthday. Jeff was born March 3, in Moline, Illinois and moved to Texas with his family as a child. He graduated Gregory-Portland High School and attended Southwestern University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and met his future wife of 47 years, Betsy Marshall. The couple married in 1965 and settled in Houston, where Jeff completed his degree at the University of Houston. He earned his law degree from South Texas College of Law and practiced maritime law at Adams & Porter, completing his career with Aon Risk Services. He was a great outdoorsman, enjoying saltwater fishing and hunting. An avid reader, he relished participation for years in a men’s book club. Jeff loved animals and volunteered with dogs at the Fort Bend County Animal Shelter until they started knocking him off his feet. In his retirement, he traveled often with his family and to exotic locations with hunting and fishing buddies. After Jeff was widowed in 2013, he transformed the house into a showplace for his big game hunting trophies. Jeff was predeceased by his parents John and Viette Wiley and his sister Penny Wiley Childress (Benny). He is survived by his daughter Jenny Wiley Legath (Jeff) and three grandsons, Jack, Will, and Cole; his brothers Cody Wiley (Corrie Keich) and Craig Wiley (Anita); and numerous beloved nephews and nieces. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 14 at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 3900 Lexington Boulevard, Missouri City, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church Missouri City or the charity of your choice.
