Jeff is survived by his loving wife Carol of 46 years; two beautiful daughters, Jennifer Bauer (husband Scott) of League City, TX; Jackie Williams (husband Ron) of Houston, TX; two terrific grandsons Joshua and Jacob Bauer; and two sister-in laws: Lois Emmert (husband Jeffrey) of Chelsea MI and Katherine Hepburn of Mason, MI. Jeff also leaves behind nephews, nieces, and many treasured friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Boyd and maternal grandparents, Alfred and Helen Schneider.
Jeff was a strong, silent man who put his family first both at home and at school. He loved spending time sitting around with family and friends. Jeff was an enthusiastic, motivational, math teacher. He taught for 44 years and retired at the end of last year. Jeff was quite the competitor and beside teaching he starting coaching football, basketball, and tennis in middle school. He was asked to take over a Mathcounts team one year and the rest is history. Jeff was a Texas State Mathcounts coach whose teams won the National Mathcounts competition four times. Jeff and his winning teams were recognized on the Senate floor in Austin for their accomplishments and met with the governor each time. Jeff was also honored when he was invited to meet with the President of the United States at the White House in the Oval Office with each winning team. Jeff also coached TMSCA, a math and science state ranked team for decades. He was so proud of his students and always referred to them as his second family. Jeff always wanted the students that he taught or coached to believe in themselves and always do their best.
Jeff served as a Captain in the Army Reserves. He graduated from Central Michigan University with a BS in Mathematics and MS in Physics. It was at CMU that he met Carol and began their life together. Jeff was a sports enthusiast, who in younger years participated in any and all sports. He enjoyed playing cards, watching sports, swimming, playing chess, solving puzzles, and even solving math problems. He really loved playing games, chess, and being around his grandsons. Jeff always looked forward to going and watching his grandsons play in any kind of sports or after-school activity. He was indeed a proud grandpa in the stands cheering them on. Jeff’s most favorite thing of all to do in life was spending time with his wife and family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association and/or the American Heart Association.
A Memorial service celebrating Jeffrey’s life will be held Monday, February 27, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Morrow Chapel of The Settegast-Kopf Co. Funeral Directors @Sugar Creek followed by a reception with family.
