Janice Rae West

Janice “Jan” Rae West was born on July 6, 1937, in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Wallace and Ann Theis, and died peacefully on Dec. 21 after a long fight trying to recover from Covid 19. Jan is preceded in death by her two parents, and her niece Bobby Jo Wendt and leaves behind two children; Shawn and wife Jennifer; Jon and wife Sandra; and six grandchildren, Ann Marie, Jon, Jake, Dylan, Emma and Nicholas; her sister Nancy Wendt and husband Bob; her brother Bud Theis and wife Marcia; plus, her many nieces and nephews. All of who she loved deeply.

Jan worked for many years at Kempner High School in the administrative offices as a dedicated worker who loved making crafts at holiday time and helping students whenever and wherever needed. Jan was a devoted Green Bay Packer fan and has been a season ticket holder since 1957 when Lambeau Field first opened. Jan was a proud member of the Pecan Grove Mugz group and a devout Catholic member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Richmond, Texas, where she was active in the Rosary Guild club volunteering and knitting newborn caps local hospitals.

Jan’s greatest joy in life was being a dedicated mother and grandmother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. Jan especially loved her role as Yaya- you could always find Jan at little league football or baseball games in Sugar Land or Nueces County; she attended almost every volleyball, Jr High or High School football game and wouldn’t miss any school performance or the chance to sit and read a book with her grandchildren at any age. Jan’s house was full of games, books, colors and whatever the latest toy was that she thought her grandchildren might enjoy – truly being a grandmother was her greatest joy and she will be dearly missed.

Those who are able we invite you to join us as we celebrate her life with a Memorial Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 507 S. 4th Street, Richmond, Texas On Saturday January 15, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. followed by a time of remembrances at Sandy McGee’s Restaurant 314 Morton St, Richmond, TX 77469
