James “Jimmy” Barney Phillips, Jr., 60, passed away on November 3, 2023 in Bryan, Texas. He was born in Victoria, TX on June 24th, 1963. He was a graduate of the 1981 class of Lee High School. He had a fulfilling and successful career as a Satellite truck driver and operator for several Houston, TX media outlets. A fun fact, he was a member of the Heavy Metal Band “Legion” from the 80’s.
Jimmy was a kid at heart who never quite grew up, but always made sure to brighten the day of anyone around him with his goofball personality. He loved music. Playing it, writing it, and singing. He never grew tired of his guitar or bass, though thankfully he outgrew the spandex pants. He was an avid animal lover as well. Despite going hunting many times, he always came home empty handed, unable to bring himself to end any creature’s life. He was always bringing in strays that needed a loving home, and he had plenty of love to give. Even in his later years, he was always happy to help with farm animals, cows especially. Though it could be said he loved cows both on and off the grill as he was a skilled and avid Barbeque Master. He was always willing to cook for family events and it never disappointed.
His sister, Cynthia Phillips, predeceased Jimmy.
Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Charlene Phillips and his father, James Barney Phillips, Sr. and his wife, Joanna, his niece Kelcey McMillin and her husband Braden.
