Gerald Lamar Snowden, age 83, of Sugar Land, TX, went home to the Lord on October 1, 2024.
Gerry attended Texas A&M University, and was part of the Corps of Cadets, along with proudly serving in the Air Force. He worked as a land surveyor, traveling throughout Texas to assignments, before dedicating over 30 years of his career as an electrical technician at Texas Instruments, from which he retired. Gerry was an active member of his church and helped volunteer at the food pantry, was the cashier at the annual cookie sale, made efforts for the sanctuary to be ready for service on Sunday, and gathered with his friends at the men’s breakfasts. He was known for his analytical mind, often creating spreadsheets for everything. He had a love/hate relationship with his computer, constantly learning new technology, updating, running out of storage, and finally giving in to buy a new one years after it was needed. His favorite place was his blue recliner, where he could be found watching the news, football, crime shows, or a great classic movie.
Gerry was married to his beloved wife, Linda, for over 52 years. Their parents attended church together and actively sought out arranging their introduction. Gerry always wanted to end up with someone petite, and he found that in Linda, who stands tall at five feet, one and one-half inches (the one-half inch is very important!). The two of them were truly a match and created a happy life together, raising their two daughters, Alicia and Jennifer, in the same home they’ve shared since it was built. So many memories were created there. As a dedicated patriarch, providing for his family was of the utmost importance, and working hard, saving, and spending quality family time were things that mattered. Dinners as a family each night, Saturday out to eat dinners at a favorite restaurant, Saturday excursions with the girls, and church every Sunday before a full work and school week was the usual family routine.
Gerry was a man of few words, and demonstrated his love and commitment by being there for the moments that mattered – birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, family vacations, and road trips to see relatives, with Linda documenting with her camera to create many cherished photo albums. He was there to witness his daughters’ weddings and see them off to create families of their own. He was a proud father-in-law to Justin and Chris, and grandfather to Isaac and Charizzma, who brought him immense joy, along with a furry fleet of dog grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lamar and Chrystine Snowden, his in-laws William Paul and Jamie Lee Temple, and brothers-in-law, Paul Temple, Jr., and James Keller. In addition to those listed above, he is survived by his sister, Suzy Keller, sister-in-law Carol Temple, and nieces and nephews, Kenny Keller, Kathryn Buntyn, Warren Temple, and Kathryn Caldarera.
Gerry’s life was marked by his dedication to his family, his work, and his community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family would like to give special thanks to countless friends who have provided so much love and support throughout the past few weeks. Your thoughts and prayers have meant so much. A memorial service and reception following will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Sugar Land, located at 502 Eldridge Rd, Sugar Land, TX 77478, on October 12, 2024, at 11:00 am.
