George Taylor Carter, 84, D.O.B October 24, 1927; Born to Mary and Jesse Carter in Houston Heights; entered into eternal rest February 23, 2012 in Sugar Land. He attended Sunset High School in Dallas, and John H. Reagan in Houston. Immediately, post-graduation he joined the U.S. navy to honor his older and only sibling who was serving at Pearl Harbor during WWII. Upon return, he entered into college at Texas A&M on the G.I Bill of Rights. Ultimately, he transferred to North Texas State University, where he became President of his fraternity; and met and married Joy Louise Magers of Fort Worth Texas; post-graduation. Together they experienced the joys and trials of 61 years of marriage. They were blessed in 2011 as they celebrated their 60th anniversary with 175 close friends and family who traveled near and far for a festive evening of dinner, toasts, and dancing. Daughter, Kim, provided an exact replica of their original wedding cake. George entered into the oil business via Hughes Tool Company. He then joined the ranks of Grant Oil Tool Company for 37 years. He was richly rewarded with multi-cultural experiences, close friends, and esteemed colleagues worldwide. He retired as Senior Vice President of Grant/Masco Corp. Not one to relax, he stepped aboard Air Drilling Inc. as V.P. in charge of business development, and advisor to the CEO. He is also a shareholder in Western Compressor Financial Services. George was a proud and patriotic man of honor, duty, and dignity. One source of pride and joy for 28 years was La Dolce Vita ranch in Buffalo, Texas. His ranch and his lake welcomed many for great times, great stories, and great memories. George was a man truly interested in people, his community, and world events. His mind remained agile and active, his spirit ever hopeful and generous. Affiliations include; journey from Mason to Shriner, Lifetime member of 100 Club, and Sheriffs Association.
George is survived by his wife Joy Louise Carter of Sugar Land, Daughter Kim Carter Pataky and Son-in-Law Rick Pataky of Indianapolis. Grandchildren, Hailey Georgia DeLaRosa of Houston, Carter Barnes Harris of San Antonio, and Autumn Holly Gallogly of Denver.
Memorial and tribute to a life well lived is set for Saturday, March 3, 2012, 11:00am at The Settegast-Kopf Co @ Sugar Creek,15015 Southwest Freeway(Williams Trace Exit), Sugar Land, Texas 77478.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to any of the following charitable organizations: CDLS Foundation, Meals on Wheels, Animal Rescue, Smile Train, or The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.
