Gary Glen Nicholson, age 74, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2021, with his wife and family by his side. Gary was born on September 24, 1947, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Herbert Ray Nicholson and Frances Leighton Nicholson.
He spent his childhood years in Shreveport until his family relocated to San Antonio, TX, in his early teens. Gary graduated from Douglas MacArthur High School in 1965. Taking a break from college he served in the U.S. Army from 1967 until 1969. After returning from the military he attended University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg, TX, graduating in 1973. He then moved to Houston to enter a career in the oil and gas industry both domestic and international with Dresser Magcobar.
In 1978 he met the love of his life. Gary and Ivy were married six months later and this year celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary. After retiring Gary and Ivy enjoyed traveling as much as possible. Besides cruising they took many trips to the mountains, the Caribbean, and the Texas Hill Country. Gary also loved feeding the birds and his squirrels in the backyard. Getting together with the kids and grandchildren was always his favorite pastime.
He is preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Frances Nicholson. Gary is survived by his loving wife, Ivy Zerange Nicholson; daughter Kelly Nicholson Hernandez (Jesse) and grandson Saylor James Hernendez; and son Jeffrey Hunter Nicholson (Melissa) and grandson River Glen Nicholson. He also leaves behind his brother Rory Blake (Colleen) Nicholson, niece Amy Nicholson, and nephews Stephen Nicholson and Alan Nicholson.
