ELIZABETH BRATTON HERBERT, born December 31, 1923, in Clearfield, PA, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013, in Sugar Land, TX. Elizabeth graduated from Penn State University in 1944, and immediately began teaching mathematics, which was her life long career focus and passion. Her teaching career took her across the country, and in 1975 she came to Houston where her career spanned many years and included being the Coordinator of Mathematics Area 3 HISD, the Director of Gifted and Talented Programs HISD, and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, School Mathematics Project, Rice University. She married Stephen Aven Herbert in February 1946 and had three children, Stephen, Anne, and Geoffrey. Elizabeth is survived by her husband of sixty-seven years, Stephen; her children, Stephen and his wife Karen, Anne, and Geoffrey and his wife Sally; five grandchildren, Heather and her husband Thad, Emily, Michael and his wife Jennifer, Stephanie and her husband Robert, and Nicholas; and seven great-grandchildren, Pierce, Street, William Hayes, William Xavier, Ivy, Emma, and Amy.
A Memorial Celebration of her life will be held at 4:00 PM, Wednesday, May 29, 2013, @ The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land (Williams Trace Exit).
