Edward Lee Roy York, born on December 3, 1933, in Dallas, Texas, to Edward Lee York Sr. and Emma Melwreta Miller, peacefully passed away on June 14, 2024, in Sugar Land, Texas. He was 90 years old.
Lee Roy graduated from La Porte High School and embarked on a distinguished 35-year career with Southwestern Bell/AT&T. His dedication to his work was matched only by his commitment to family and community.
A faithful member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Richmond, Texas, Lee Roy also served proudly in the Texas Air National Guard. Beyond his professional and military achievements, Lee Roy cherished his hobbies, which included camping, vacationing with his young family, and sharing his love for hunting and fishing with his sons. He took great joy in coaching his daughter's softball team and guiding his sons' Boy Scout troop.
In retirement, Lee Roy and his beloved wife Gertrude Marie York, whom he shared 56 years of marriage with, devoted two decades to developing their cherished 10-acre homestead in Onalaska, Texas. Recently, he found community and camaraderie at Landon Ridge independent living, enjoying games of pool, cards, and dominoes with friends.
Edward Lee Roy York was preceded in death by his loving wife Gertrude Marie York, his parents Edward Lee York Sr. and Emma Melwreta Miller, his sister Bettye Wyvonne Noel, and his brother Jimmie Duronne York.
He is survived by his daughter Andrea Marie Harrow (Hugh Anthony Harrow), sons Edward Lee Roy York (Gwendolyn Lea York) and David Michael York (Jonna Maree York), grandchildren Ryan Wade Samuel, Bailee Christine Henson (Charles Matthew Henson), Samantha Lynn Gold (Jason Charles Gold), Kaitlin Noel Bunsen (Michael Seth Bunsen), Christopher David York, and Brad Lee Hayes, as well as great-grandchildren Emma Jean Henson, Riley Paige Gold, Lilly Belle Henson, and Ryker James Gold.
Lee Roy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his legacy of kindness, dedication, and love for his family and community will live on in their hearts forever.
