Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 23, 2024 at a 10:00 AM Mass in St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lafayette for Doris Marie Samaha Breaux, age 88, who passed away on September 18, 2024 in Houston, Texas.
Interment will be held in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.
Reverend James Brady, JCL will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and the services.
Survivors include her children, Deborah Marie Breaux Hernandez and her husband Xavier, Denise Marlene Breaux Richard, Deanne Marla Breaux McCauley and her husband Brian, and Donald Joseph Breaux II and his wife Stacey; grandchildren, Emiliano Hernandez, Michael Hernandez and his wife Kara, Sarah Hernandez Palmer and her husband Garrett, Stephen Hernandez, Gage Richard and his wife Blanca, Hunter Richard, Lacey McCauley Smith and her husband Noah, Liam McCauley, Aiden Breaux, and Addison Breaux; eight great grandchildren; siblings, Rosalie Dayhood, Dorothy Weigel, and Edward Samaha Jr.
Preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Breaux; parents, Edward Samaha Sr. and Ruth Ferris Samaha; son in law, Ronald Christopher Richard; brothers-in-law, Sam Dayhood Sr. and Lon Weigel.
Doris Breaux, a vibrant and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering commitment to family and friends.
Doris was an avid tennis player, participating in the Thomas Park Tennis League, where her competitive spirit shone brightly. Her passion for sports extended beyond tennis; in high school, she excelled in volleyball, badminton, and ping pong, embodying the athleticism and determination that defined her character.
A true enthusiast of shopping, Doris worked at Dillard's as a pacesetter for 25 years, where her love for fashion and connecting with customers flourished. Gardening was another of Doris's great joys, allowing her to cultivate both beautiful flowers and cherished memories. A devoted member of the choir at St. Pius X Catholic Church, she found fulfillment in sharing her love of music with her congregation. Doris was also deeply committed to her community, generously donating her time to causes such as the MDA Telethon, March of Dimes, and participating in Breast Cancer walks.
In her later years, Doris enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including playing bingo and attending sporting events, award ceremonies, and music and dance recitals for her beloved grandchildren. For every holiday gathering, she proudly held the title of family corn hole champion, adding a playful spirit to every celebration.
Doris was known for her culinary skills, often cooking for family and friends, creating meals that brought everyone together. She also loved playing cards, especially Bridge and Uno, sharing laughter and camaraderie around the table.
Doris Breaux’s indomitable spirit and her love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and a joyful heart that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Pallbearers will be Michael Hernandez, Stephen Hernandez, Gage Richard, Hunter Richard, Liam McCauley, and Aiden Breaux.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Xavier Hernandez, Brian McCauley, Noah Smith, Garrett Palmer, and Emiliano Hernandez.
A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at 6:00 PM in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE Location.
The family requests that visitation be observed on Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Monday, September 23, 2024 from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM.
