David Wayne Scates

David Wayne Scates, age 58, of Sugar Land, Texas passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, after a brief illness. David was born on May 10, 1965, in Houston, Texas, to William Thomas Scates, Jr. and Jeannine Marie Olle Scates.

David was preceded in death by his father William Thomas Scates, Jr. and his mother Jeannine Marie Olle Scates, along with his uncles, Bobby Byler and Robert Olle. He is survived by his four siblings, Michael Scates, Patti Scates, Peggy Scates McGullam (Kevin) and Mark Scates, all of Sugar Land, Texas. Also surviving are his nephews and nieces, Travis McGullam, Dylan McGullam, Taylor McGullam and Paige Scates all of Sugar Land, Texas, as well as two aunts, Judy Byler of LaGrange, Texas and Hattie Olle of Moulton, Texas and his cousins Scott Byler and Chad Byler.

David loved his family and especially enjoyed the Sunday get-togethers and holiday celebrations that were shared. He was a great cook and helped prepare many meals for those celebrations. He was always ready for a good domino game after dinner. David was also a former member of the Sugar Land Knights of Columbus St. Basil Hall. He adored his nephews and nieces and was always so very proud of their accomplishments. He will be greatly missed but will live on in our hearts and all our family celebrations.

A visitation with rosary for David will be held Tuesday, October 17, 2023 from 4:00 PM until the rosary begins at 7:00 PM at The Settegast-Kopf Company at Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, TX 77478. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 705 St Theresa Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77498. A burial will occur Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Oak HIll Cemetery, 726 N Penn St, Flatonia, TX 78941.
